Elisa Ortega Montilla

Art found Elisa Ortega Montilla in her adolescence and since then, in different ways, it has been a constant in her life. Because of her commitment to social justice and the ongoing fight for equality, she chose social work as her profession. Over more than a decade, she has worked with groups as diverse as drug addicts; victims of domestic violence; the gypsy community in Spain; homeless LGBT youth; and adults with intellectual disabilities. She has always incorporated art as a tool to empower the communities she works with.
Since the age of 16 she has studied art in public institutions and private workshops, including classes at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and in the Department of Fine Arts at the Complutense University in Madrid. Over the years she has participated in several collective and individual exhibitions in in Córdoba, Madrid, Bilbao, Quetzaltenango (Guatemala), Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Los Angeles, as well as in urban art projects.
Currently she is persuing a Masters in Fine Arts at University of Santa Barbara. She has lived in California since 2013.
